Village Hardware, part of the Aubuchon Company family of brands, has been Alexandria’s go-to neighborhood hardware store since 1979. Founded by Larry Gray, who honed his construction skills alongside his father, “the Village” blends mom-and-pop warmth with unique in-store features like our “Grill Pit,” staffed by “The Grill Guys,” Jim & Rick. In April 2021, we joined the Aubuchon family, enabling Larry and Janet Gray’s retirement while keeping our expert team intact. Voted Best Hardware Store in Virginia, Village Hardware delivers personalized advice, quality products, and a welcoming community atmosphere for every project.

Since 1979, we've been turning DIY dreams into reality with hometown expertise, family-run values, and an unmatched selection of products and services.
In 1979, Larry Gray opened Village Hardware in suburban Alexandria, VA, bringing decades of construction know-how and a passion for helping neighbors to Main Street.
The store became a family affair over the next decades. Gray's children joined the team, and his wife, Janet, would often prepare hot meals behind the shop for hard-working employees, fostering a tight-knit 'family' culture.
In 1985, Weber released its first gas grill, which became so popular among Village Hardware's customers that a portion of the basement was dedicated to it, creating the original 'Weber Room' (today's 'Grill Pit') stocked with every grill model and accessory imaginable.
